Top 5 Supplements

At Simply Health, we have been dealing with natural health products for a long time, and this also means that between the four of us, we have taken a LOT of supplements. Here is a list of some of our top 5 favorite supplements.

1) Probiotics (New Roots Herbal)

Did you know that we have more bacteria in our body than human cells?

Or, that we have over 400 strains of probiotics that exist in our body?

It’s hard not to get excited when we are talking about probiotics, because they have such wide range of action. Probiotics are still relatively newly researched, and there is new and fascinating research emerging all the time. Probiotics are something we believe individuals should be supplementing with all the time, as they perform so many vital functions in our body such as synthesis of various B-vitamins, Vitamin K, Vitamin A and some essential fatty acids, maintaining a healthy immune system and a healthy digestive system. Probiotics are also being researched to assist in mood balance, and to reduce anxiety and depression because we have serotonin receptors located in our intestinal wall.

New Roots probiotics are a top seller for us because they have a variety of strains of bacteria, they are enteric coated (meaning they will be protected against stomach acid), and they are affordable. If you suffer from alternating patterns of constipation and diarrhea, constant abdominal pain and bloating, frequent illness, allergies, or food sensitivities, than probiotics might be for you!

2)   SunWarrior Protein

Protein is not something that every person needs to supplement with. If you are able to achieve the recommended amount per day through diet, than by all means, continue to do so! However, many of us struggle to get an adequate amount of protein through diet. Protein is essential for building muscle, manufacturing enzymes and hormones, and the building and maintenance of body tissues (amongst many other things, of course). SunWarrior Protein is great as it is a complete protein, meaning it contains all of our essential amino acids, and it is free of common allergens, and genetically modified ingredients. In comparison to whey, sprouted brown rice protein has actually been shown to have a slightly higher biological value, which contradicts what we have traditionally thought about plant-based proteins.

3)   Natural Calm Magnesium

Magnesium is another one of those supplements where the question “what does it do?” is answered by “what doesn’t it do?” Magnesium is responsible for over 300 different biochemical reactions in the body, and can benefit a multitude of conditions including, but not limited to: insomnia, anxiety, constipation, hypertension, muscle cramps and tension, and much more. It is also necessary to activate Vitamin D. Those suffering from any of these conditions listed above may benefit from supplementing with magnesium. One of our favorites is the Natural Calm, which is a powdered magnesium that can be taken before bed. Best selling flavors are the raspberry lemon, and the plain.

4)   Progressive VegeGreens

We are huge advocates of greens supplements, and we have our justification: how many of us get our recommended servings of vegetables per day, especially green leafy vegetables? It is no secret that eating a diet that includes a variety of vegetables is essential to good health, and Progressive makes a very complete formula, that doesn’t taste half bad either! Some of the benefits of taking a powdered greens supplements are: a healthier digestive system, better skin, improved energy levels, improved cognitive function, and better immunity.

5)   Japanese Mint Oil

Japanese Mint Oil is one of those items that should be kept on hand at all times. It is helpful for headaches, muscle aches and pains, and sinus congestion. Just a few drops added to your favorite lotion and rubbed onto the effected area is all you need, just be very careful not to get into your eyes!
